hi, i’m claire :)

i love to take photos and work with nice people!

my love of photography started precisely in the above picture. all i wanted for christmas was a point and shoot digital camera and when my dream came true, I was rarely seen without it. mostly that meant following our cat around like paparazzi, or using the video function to record things my brother did that made me laugh.

while it is fair to assume i was a child prodigy, i would say i’ve actually come quite a long way with this work! I’d love to tell you more below :)

thank you for being here <3

A Few Questions…

How long have you been taking photos?

Aside from the point and shoot world of my childhood, I first learned how cameras actually work in high school when I joined the yearbook team. I learned camera settings, ISO, how to compose, all that kind of thing, and spent most of my time out of class asking friends to pose so i could start to learn what i like. i’m 24 now, which puts my time with cameras around nine years.

What’s your credibility ?

To be fair, no one’s ever asked me this explicitly, but I’m going to share anyway just in case you were curious ;)

i went to school at unc charlotte and graduated with a degree in communications and minors in film studies & gender studies. i’ve worked professionally as a photographer for other folks and for myself. i received a 2024 United Arts Council artist support grant which i used towards revamping some of my equipment. in college, i created and ran a culture and arts magazine and in 2022, completed an internship in nyc for VICE media.

What’s your specialty?

In broad terms, I’m a portrait photographer, which means i want to take photos of people (human and non-human people alike). if you have a soul and a story, i’d love to take your photo.

professionally, i specialize in environmental portraiture, which means i like for the background of an image to be just as valuable as the protagonist. i love shooting with film formats and i rarely shoot in studio.

i always want my work to center connection and emotion. i prefer work that feels timeless in nature, where the emotions are the subject, not the material. film is great for this!

additionally to straight-forward portraiture, i also do documentary photography. the ethos is the same — i challenge myself to cover events like rallies and protests with a focus on the interpersonal exchanges, emotions, and experience of being there. for examples, I’d love to direct you to these blog posts.

How much does it cost to work with you?

I price my services around a few central pillars:

  • amount of people/elements involved

  • duration/timeline

  • travel

  • material costs (film costs, etc).

for this reason, it’s quite hard to give a very general estimate of what to expect. for an exact quote, fill out my inquiry form or shoot me an email! i offer a sliding scale range for most options. you’re also welcome to include your budget within the inquiry form, and i will let you know what/if i am able to offer something in your price point! i believe sweet imagery with your loved ones should be accessible to all.

What to expect in a session?

How do you run your business?

Around a year ago, i came to a conclusion. running a business, especially a one-person business, is hard. it sometimes feels poisonous to try to blend your passion with your income source. that is why, to avoid burnout and overall internal disaster, i practice inviting in ease with all work i do.

in this case, that means letting go of the hope that i may be everyone’s cup of tea. i am not! nor do i wish to be.

i want to work with clients that see the world in a similar way, who believe in the sacred life force of every person, and care enough to treat folks with kindness. i especially mix well with folks who love the look of film — not purely from a visual, aesthetic standpoint, but for it’s unique ability to transcend time and place. there is some kind of magic that happens with you document something ephemeral onto a tangible form. basically, you know technology may be good for many things, but aren’t we tired of the super perfect, digitally manipulated images we see day in and day out?

and above all, i seek to operate a business out of kindness, out of revolutionary optimism for a world in which everyone’s material needs will be met not because they work hard enough but because it is everyone’s right to have their basic needs met so that creativity, kindness, and imagination can flourish.
