Why Portraits?
Portraits are my bread and butter — they are foundational to who I am as a photographer!
I began my photography journey ten years ago on the yearbook team in high school, making portraits of my classmates and peers. It’s never been a question for me what I like to photograph; I’m endlessly fascinated by people and how we express ourselves. I love portraiture as a way to make meaningful connections with folks I may otherwise have not met.
Having your portrait taking can be nerve wracking, and I can totally relate to feeling awkward or uncomfortable in front of the camera! That’s why prioritizing your comfort and safety is the first step in any great portrait session. I always start a session with a warm-up period to get everyone comfortable being photographed and I encourage modifications to make the photo environment more comfortable, like putting on music or inviting a friend to cheer you on. And I will ALWAYS ask before making physical adjustments like fixing your hair, accessories, etc. Your safety and comfort in the space and in your body is KEY!!!!
I’ve had the honor of photographing all sorts of people: different ages, sizes, shades, and abilities. I’m always happy to talk in detail about how you want to present for the camera and how you want to be represented in your photos.
“I contacted Claire to do a very emotional, personal photoshoot to celebrate the life of my soul cat, Goobie. she did an excellent job making us comfortable, wasn’t afraid of trying different things, and she made a difficult time feel less heavy. i look back on the shoot as one of my favorite memories that I have with him. she has a beautiful artistic vision and i always love seeing her bring concepts into reality. i treasure the pictures she took of me and my boy so much, any future photography needs I have, she will be my first call.”

What’s it like working together?
general flow
Every session is unique, but the process often flows a bit like this:
Inquiry + information gathering: we’ll communicate via a phone call or through messages about vision, intention, location, and date/time
session day: portrait sessions typically range from 60-90 minutes, including an initial warm-up period getting comfortable in the space! we’ll meet an agreed upon location, talk through some of what we’ll do, and move organically through the photo making process. I’ll often take pauses to switch cameras and follow ideas and inspiration as they come along. any posing suggestions i offer are just that — suggestions! I’ll always encourage you to follow what feels good and natural. if you’re nervous about having your photo made, it’s okay!!! so do most of my the clients i work with! we’ll move at your pace, i’ll be here to hype you up at every moment, and you’re also welcome to play music or invite a friend to help you feel comfortable and free.
receiving your new art! within three weeks of our session, you’ll receive a curated gallery with all your images for your to share, download, or print as you please.
